Tomorrow is a public holiday called Indian Arrival Day. Long ago, many people came from India and other countries to Trinidad and Tobago on great big ships. Every group of people that came to Trinidad brought with them their ways of life and practices, or culture. This means people spoke different languages, wore different clothes, ate different foods, and liked different things. Many of those things came together to give us the culture we have in our country today.

Pentecost:

As the disciples sat in a room and prayed, a strong wind filled the whole place. What does a strong wind feel like? Take out your paper boats and blow on it very gently, not moving it. Now blow on the end of the boat very hard with all your might. Does it move? Blow very hard on your hand. Can you feel that? Imagine that's what a strong wind feels like.

Then there appeared a tongue of fire above their heads:

What could it be? It was the Holy Spirit! They were then able to speak other languages and do great things, bringing people together through the Holy Spirit. This day is remembered as Pentecost. Pentecost will be celebrated on Sunday. Have a special meal with your family. Do an activity together. Say a prayer and/or watch the Mass together. We will continue talking about Pentecost on Monday.

Time for a Science Experiment!

Have you ever wondered if the items in your pencil case would float? Many years ago, a lot of people came to this country on boats. Did they fly across on the boat like a magic carpet? Did they pick it up and run across the ocean with it? Maybe....the boat floated in the water and they rode inside to cross the big, wide ocean. I wonder what else can float? Make a list! Write the name of items you want to experiment with to the left of your page under the "Items" column. In your "Hypothesis" column, check off whether you think the item will float or sink. A "Hypothesis" is an educated guess, meaning we really think about it before making a guess and saying what we think might happen before we actually try it out.

Once you have a hypothesis for each item, it's time to give it a try! Put each item on your list in water and let's see what really happens. Did you guess right or did something else happen? Interesting! Check it off in your "Results" column for what actually sinks or floats. What else can you try this sink or float experiment with?

This Sunday we are preparing to celebrate Pentecost. Here is an idea of what it is about. We will talk more about it later on.
