Can you remember what your favourite animal is? Do you have any favourite animals from the reading?
In your drawing book or on a clean page, ask an adult to draw lines for you. Write "My favourite animals eat" on the line to the TOP of the page. On the top line in each section, write the names of four of your favourite animals from the readings. It should look like this:

Here's where we step in as scientists and begin an investigation! First, what do you THINK this animal eats? Why do you think so? Next, INVESTIGATE! Ask an adult to help you use the internet or books or other resources to learn about what these animals actually eat. Were your guesses correct? Do this for each animal. In each box, draw your guess (or hypothesis) to the LEFT of the box. Draw the real answer to the RIGHT of the box. Write the names of the food on the line to the BOTTOM of each box.

Please note the drawings do not have to be perfect: I want to see the children's interpretation of these animals. It might look odd to you, but what is important is their aesthetic expression and manipulation of drawing material to convey how they process what they see and creatively express it in their own way. This means each student's artwork is individual and does not look exactly like anyone else's. I do ask however, that the children practice coloring within the lines of their drawings (hand-eye coordination, fine motor skill practice, recall and follow instructions) and use realistic colors eg. the horse does not eat purple coils, it eats green grass. Thank you.
